Future Royal 1, Week 19 - Upcoming Week

Welcome!

I hope that everyone had a nice holiday break! As we're wrapping up, just a quick reminder that there is practice tonight from 5:20-6:20PM!

  • Friday 1/3:            5:20-6:20PM

Looking ahead, this next week will be prep for the MLK meet two weeks from now. We will focus on starts, turns and finishes of all the strokes! A reminder that the signup for the MLK meet closes on the 6th (coming Monday!!) I heavily encourage anyone who is able to attend the meet, even if only for one day, to do so! It was a great meet last year and it promises to be even better this time!

A quick reminder for meets: Swimmers need towels, goggles, caps, snacks and water! But do NOT need equipment. **Generally** we want the swimmer to be there 30-15 minutes prior to the start of the warm-up, or about 45-30 minutes prior to the start of the session. This is important so that we can make sure they have their gear, and we are able to complete our warmup (we do a small dryland warmup before meets!).

For announcements/important items this week there isn't much, besides a reminder to sign up for the MLK meet!

  • If your swimmer has not gotten a shirt, please email me! @[email protected]
    • If I don't have them, I will ensure your swimmer is on the list for our staff who prepare the shirt bags. This might take some time.
  • Almost all of us who aren't brand new have it already, but if you haven't, visit the Elsmore swim shop to ensure your swimmer has Fins and a Kickboard! Additionally, Elsmore recently received a stock of our "Meet" swimsuits, so go ahead and purchase a suit we use for meets:
  • There is a GroupMe for FR1, go to this link to join! Feel free to message about any questions of other parents or myself in there, I will do my best to monitor that chat regularly.
  • We want to represent our Royal colors, so we have what Coach Andy calls "Royal Fridays!" (an HSE tradition) where every Friday students/athletes, and coaches/teachers wear blue colors (specifically the shirt!)
  • The SSC announcing crew (our wonderful announcers for meets) is looking to grow the group!
    • We would like to extend an invite to any Future Royal Parent who would like to give it a try. We have the November Splash on Saturday, and Matt would be glad to show you the ropes during this club-only event. It is a lot of fun and offers you a front row seat to the action - all while counting towards your volunteer obligation to the club when announcing for one of the club hosted/non-Splash meets. Please feel free to reach out to Matt to let me know if you would be interested - [email protected]
  • *IF you've noticed that some groups getting goodiebags or other fun things, we can get that for our group too! Here's the following message from Kathy Nelson, who's the lead for the Team Parents Committee.*

"We are looking for a few more parents to join the Team Parents Committee for the FR1 group!!  Are you interested in becoming a little more involved in SSC?  Are you wanting to support and foster the culture and the cohesion of the FR1 group?  Are you wanting to get to know the FR1 athletes and families?  Being an FR1 Team Parent will allow you to do just that!

If you're interested in being part of the Team Parents Committee for FR1 or want additional information about the role, contact Kathy Nelsen at [email protected]."

If you have any questions or comments for me, feel free to reach out to: [email protected]
