FUTURE ROYALS 2:
Happy Meet Week!!
There are a variety of germs going around right now, so if your swimmer is not feeling well please use your best judgement in whether or not they are well enough to attend practice.
The Northside Invite is quickly approaching... THIS WEEKEND...so we will continue to work on all of the little things that can really add up on meet weekends! We have been talking a lot about taking ownership of their choices and actions during practice and really being mindful of what they are putting into each workout as well as what they are expecting to get out of it. Starts and turns have been a big area of focus the last few practices, particularly working on using their legs and being explosive off of the blocks and walls! This week we will continue to work on technique, starts, turns, skills and drills! :)
We are entering championship season for our High School swimmers in a few weeks! That being said, our practice schedule may be affected due to High School meets coming up. I will try to continue to give as much notice for our schedule and any changes there may be as early as possible.
THANK YOU THANK YOU THANK YOU to Liz Paternoster and Kristi Pettis for stepping into our team parent role for the group! Please reach out to either of them with any questions about snacks for the remainder of the season! We ALL appreciate you! :)
Hopefully you all received the newly introduced "Off the Walls" Age Group Monthly Newsletter! In this newsletter each group recognized our "Champions in the Pool" for the month of December. Our FR2 "Champions in the Pool" for December are LAYLA HALVORSON and ARJUN RAJPUT! Both Layla and Arjun have shown so much growth so far this season, particularly in December, and have put a lot of focus and effort into all of our club values! I am so proud of both of these wonderful young athletes and cannot wait to see what all they continue to accomplish!
Let's have another GREAT week! :)
***REMINDERS***
- The date for the Northside Invitational has CHANGED! It will now take place on Saturday February 15th - Sunday February 16th! Please take a look at your swimmer's events for this meet - they are now available to view on the meet page.
- Our schedule this week and next will be a little different due to the Northside Invite and upcoming High School meets. We will NOT have practice on FRIDAY (2/14) OR SATURDAY (2/15) this week as well as MONDAY (2/17) or SATURDAY (2/22).
- The Championship Splash will now be SUNDAY March 2nd due to Boys High School State Finals on Saturday March 1st.
- PLEASE make sure you are entering and exiting through Door 10 (the athletic entrance to the high school) for each practice! The Athletic Department has asked that no swimmer or family use the end doors to enter or exit the Natatorium for safety reasons.
- Please make sure your swimmer is prepared for the dropping temperatures at the end of practice! I require for all swimmers to be wearing shoes, a shirt/sweatshirt and pants/shorts to leave the pool area. There are also a variety of germs going around right now, so if your swimmer is not feeling well please use your best judgement in whether or not they are well enough to attend practice.
- We do dryland as a group on WEDNESDAY and SATURDAY each week. If your swimmer would like to participate in dryland they MUST be wearing tennis shoes. I do not allow Crocs, sandals or slides of any kind.
- Please help me remind your swimmers to bring all of their equipment as well as a water bottle to practice every day! Having their own equipment and a drink nearby allows us to move through practice more efficiently and get more work done in the time that we have.
- The SSC announcing crew (our wonderful announcers for meets) is looking to grow the group!
- We would like to extend an invite to any Future Royal Parent who would like to give it a try. We have the November Splash on Saturday, and Matt would be glad to show you the ropes during this club-only event. It is a lot of fun and offers you a front row seat to the action - all while counting towards your volunteer obligation to the club when announcing for one of the club hosted/non-Splash meets. Please feel free to reach out to Matt to let me know if you would be interested - [email protected]
Below are a few important reminders/updates:
- We are going to be starting up BLUE FRIDAYS again this year! Each Friday, please have your athlete show their ROYAL PRIDE by sporting either a blue shirt/sweatshirt or an SSC/HSE Swimming shirt to school!
- Please make sure your swimmer has and is bringing all of their equipment everyday! If there is something you haven’t been able to purchase or you have questions, please let me know, but we are really starting to use fins and kickboard especially each day so it is important that we have what we need to be successful.

For those of you who don’t know me already , here is a quick "About Me" to get to know me better!
My name is Kylie Love (formerly Sutherlin, I recently got married) and I am a Royal at heart! I started my swimming journey at SSC in the lessons program at age 6 and ended my competitive swimming career with SSC the summer before my sennior year of college at age 22. I attended Hamiton Southeastern High School and graduated in 2016, helping bring home a State Runner-Up title my senior year while also being part of the pool and school record-setting 400 Freestyle Relay team in the process. After graduating, I went on to swim and Study Elementary Special Education at Eastern Michigan University. I graduated from EMU in December of 2021 with my teaching degree and decided it was time to come home, not only to Indiana, but to HSE/SSC as well! I got a job as a Special Education teacher here at HSE High School in January of 2022 and have loved it ever since. Swimming has been such a huge part of my life for so long and I am thankful to be back at the club that has provided so much to me, working alongside so many coaches who helped get me to where I am today!
OUR GROUP:
Our group continues to grow and that is INCREDIBLE! Below I have included a "Meet Our Group" chart that will help everyone get to know the members of our FR2 family! :)
I would like to welcome 3 new members to our FR2 group this week (I apologize for being a week late with my welcome) - Cooper Merchant, Reagan Paternoster and Brooklyn Roberts! They will be moving up from FR1 to join us, so if you see them around, please make sure to make them feel welcome!

| Layla Halvorson |
Donna Janssens | Lorrie Janssens | Lilah Lambert |
| Timmy Lawrance | Chloe McIntosh | Cooper Merchant | Emma Paternoster |

SWIM EQUIPMENT:
Please make sure swimmers have all swimming equipment they need for training - labeled with their name and group (FR2) in Sharpie! We will be adding a new piece of equipment this fall ... A SNORKEL! I recommend going to Elsmore Swim Shop with your swimmer so they can help make sure you get a snorkel that will fit!
Now is a great time to check and see if anything needs to be replaced (Fins too small? Goggles leaking? Mesh bag ripped? Kickboard missing?). I have included a list below, as well as the link to the equipment that we need and a phone number/address for Elsmore.
- Mesh Bag (optional but recommended)
- Swim Suit
- Cap (this will be a required piece of equipment in our group this year!)
- Goggles
- Towel
- Kickboard
- Fins
- SNORKEL :)
- Water Bottle
