JR1 Week 1 (April 13th-19th):
HELLO EVERYONE!
For those of you who are new to this, I am Coach Aaron and this is the start of our weekly newsletters for the Summer season. Please make sure to check your inboxes every Sunday evening for updates like these to weekly practice schedules and announcements.
For those who are new to JR 1, just below our announcements we will have our season’s rules and expectations posted so you and your swimmer have a sense of what our group looks like and what to expect. We will go over our expectations with our swimmers in more detail on the first day of practice as well to ensure we all start the season on the same page.
NOTICE: We have had a modification to our schedule this week already which sets our first practice on Tuesday, April 15 from 7:15-8:30, NOT MONDAY, APRIL 14. We will keep you posted if any more changes like this occur.
Practice Schedule this week:
Announcement #1: Short Course Celebration Banquet
For those of you who were part of our winter (short course) season, we are having a banquet on Thursday, April 24th to hand out awards and discuss how our previous season went. The event will start at 5:30pm in the cafeteria. If you plan on attending, please log into your SSC account and add the total number of people from your family that will be attending so we have an accurate count for food. The RSVP deadline for this is Friday, April 18th. Please contact Erin Fisher if you have any questions.
For New Swimmers/Parents
JR1 Group Rules
-
Be Present and on time. Practice starts when the schedule says it starts - it isn’t the time you (the swimmer) starts to get ready.
-
Respect your teammates. We are all on the same team and working through this together. Treat them how you want to be treated. And speak to them how you want to be spoken to.
-
Respect the Coaches. Be quiet and listen when a coach is talking, and try to do as they ask. Disrespect will NOT be tolerated.
-
Don’t ask for the time/ keep checking the clock. The coaches are aware of when practice needs to end so you don’t have to be. Just focus on swimming, and you'll do great!
-
Make sure to bring all your equipment to EVERY practice. This includes goggles and water bottles. All swimmers should have a full water bottle at the start of practice, and bringing an extra pair of goggles is highly encouraged.
-
Focus on YOU. Do not worry about what others are doing. In practice, your primary concern is you.
-
Stay Healthy. Make sure to eat something before and after practice. Stretch out frequently to prevent soreness. If you are sick, DON’T COME.
-
Communicate, Communicate, COMMUNICATE! Let your coaches know what’s going on, if you're having any issues, and if there’s anything you need help with. We are here for YOU!
-
Have Fun! Things are gonna be tough; might as well do them with a smile. :-)u

Illness and Injury
Swimmers who are sick are strongly encouraged to not attend practice until symptoms subside and may be sent home by coach if they appear unfit to practice. Swimmers who are running a fever should not come to practice until 24 hours after the fever has subsided and symptoms have ceased. If you are uncertain if your swimmer should return to practice, please contact us and we will advise.
Injured swimmers should communicate their injury to their coaches immediately so that we can take appropriate action to accommodate them. Muscle soreness is not typically a result of injury, and swimmers who are sore are encouraged to stretch and rollout before practice. A healthy diet and lots of rest can help prevent injury and is strongly encouraged for all swimmers.
